mama

new one-of-a-kind bracelets can be found here and I'm offering free dometic shipping from now until may 7. yep.

in related news, b and I were just discussing the next incarnation of the site. what we're envisioning: the ability to browse by category, collection, or availability (one of a kind, limited edition, or ongoing.) uh huh.

chashama

last thursday I had the pleasure of seeing Leanne Schmidt and Kate Fauvell perform 8PM at chashama's 37th street location. chashama is an arts organization which curates performances and installations in a number of manhattan storefront locations. leanne, a choreographer, and kate, a painter, teamed up in this tiny gallery to explore the intersections between the two artist's processes.

kate hung several large sheets of white paper on the gallery walls, painting scenes of the sidewalk audience in drippy ink washes. her brush strokes were simple and gestural, often using a broad house painter's brush. this allowed the imagery to appear slowly, creating an active performance in which the audience could engage. leanne seemed like a child in a sandbox- curious and cautious. she remained vaguely aware of kate's presence, but mostly played her own games. both artists wore white- leanne in gauzy dance clothes, and kate wrapped in a sheet, toga-style. the brightness of the space created by the white walls and costumes and warm lighting made the gallery shine like a jewel box for the sidewalk guests. a beautifully composed soundscape was broadcast on small speakers attached to the building's façade.

hanging out on the sidewalk in such a busy part of the city- midtown west- garment district and a few blocks from times square- was really fun and odd. mostly because it felt like we shouldn't have been there- uninvited guests on a heavily trafficked street. a japanese t.v. crew added to the mahem, as well as two still photographers.

8PM is being performed again this thursday. at 8pm.

more stuff

here are some photos of the wee little necklaces I've been working on. I spent some time last evening posting some new beads and brooches to my etsy shop, so go have a look. Looks pretty overcast today (ha ha, my favorite kind of weather!!!) so I might be shooting some more items.

stuff

been feeling a little exhausted after selling at the brooklyn flea twice this month. I had the grand plan of taking the week off and doing nothing but yoga and dance. YEAH. like that really happened. monday was a play day, starting with yoga, meeting bobbi for lunch, and wandering through the city with her until dark. perhaps my favorite part of the day was sitting on the south-facing steps in union square and just watching people. man, I never do that any more. tuesday and wednesday turned back into work days. I shipped off a collection to modish, posted some new work on supermarket, but the most fun...was working on some new pieces. last time I checked in with ai ai gasa and rare device, they both requested more delicate necklaces. give the people what they want is what I say, so this afternoon I embarked on creating daintier versions of some of my current necklace designs. I'll post some photos shortly. they're really sweet, and the colors rock.

another sunday at the flea

I'm TOTALLY looking forward to my second weekend at the brooklyn flea. Look for me again in the design*sponge collective, behind the handball courts to the left as you walk in.

I have a great selection of vintage bracelets, earrings and brooches this time, as well as some cheapie necklaces ($15 and under!) for the budget-minded. And of course, my ever-evolving collection of molliedash jewelry. The charm necklaces did very well the first week, so I'll be bringing some new pieces out this sunday.

Check out the brownstoner brooklyn flea blog for detailed information such as directions and hours. see you there!

oh happy day

I'm sitting here at home at 10:30 pm, with the windows open. woo hoo! after constructing half a necklace and doing a load of laundry, I finally realized I wasn't going to get any work done and headed out to williamsburg for a walk. I seem to be drawn to franklin st. in greenpoint, which is emerging as a street with stuff. a couple of bars, some pretty serious coffee houses, a book store that has a full schedule of readings and events, and a boutique or two. wandering through williamsburg and back (the way to get to greenpoint) is a perfect way to spend a warm evening. I made it a point to walk on streets, or portions of streets I don't always visit, and found my way into cinders gallery. after visiting the whitney biennial at the park avenue armory last month, I was left with the feeling that I just don't get art. having studied painting and printmaking in college, I was always frustrated at the idea of having to be up on who was *important* in the art world. I much preferred to trust my own taste and enjoy art I could understand without having to read an explanation in a catalogue. this is perhaps the reason I love cinders. I know I can always walk in there and find something I like, or respond to. most of the work they exhibit is small, sometimes unframed, and the *shop* section carries a great selection of zines and artist's books.

cinders gallery is located at 103 havermeyer st. in williamsburg, brooklyn.
